Lum Chung was born in China in the 1920s.
She married to my Grandfather, Fong Teck Niet at a young age. They left for Singapore to seek a better future. There, they stayed in an offshore island called Pulau Tekong.
I believe that they were in Pulau Tekong when the second world war started.
Lum Chung gave birth to 10 children, of which 6 are boys, 4 are girls. 1 girl was given away as the family could not support her. She would later be recounciled with the big family.
The family collected rubber saps for a living.
My Grandfather passed away soon, due to the smoking which blackened the lungs.
The family was given a grant from the government to own a unit in an apartment as the government had other plans to develop Pulau Tekong.
And so, the family came to mainland...
